Statement of Faith
The Bible- We believe the Bible to be the perfect word of God, written by men, but inspired by the Holy Spirit of God. It is sufficient to teach us what we must know about God, His nature, His character, His plan for salvation, and how to live our daily lives.
The Trinity- We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, eternally existing, and revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Father- We believe that God the Father is the principal member of the Trinity and it is to His will that Jesus subjected Himself. We are created in the image of God and for His purposes.
Jesus Christ- We believe that Jesus is fully God and fully human, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins in fulfillment of the scriptures. Furthermore, He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven where He intercedes on our behalf at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.
The Holy Spirit- We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, to convict men of sin, to regenerate the believing sinner, to indwell, guide, instruct, cleanse, and empower the believer to carry out the plan and mission that God has set for them to do.
Humanity- We believe that humanity was created by God, both male and female, as His image bearers, but our first father and mother, Adam and Eve fell to sin. Because of the pervasiveness of our sin, we are separated from God and unable to “save ourselves” and earn our way to right standing with God. We need God to save us!
Sin- Sin is breaking the Law of God. We are born with a sinful nature as a result of the sin of our first father, Adam. We are separated from God by sins we commit, and by our failures to do that which is right. The Bible says the just punishment for our sin is eternity in Hell- a punishment which is reasonable since our sin is in violation of the laws of the holy and eternal creator God of the universe.
Salvation- We believe that in love, God reached out to offer salvation to all who would repent (turn away from sin) and believe in Him alone for their salvation. The shed blood of Jesus Christ and his resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only those who receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God.
Baptism- We believe that Christian baptism, commanded by our Lord, is an ordinance signifying our acceptance of the atonement of Jesus Christ, and is declarative of our faith in Him as personal Savior. Northwood Community Bible Church practices believer’s baptism by immersion.
Lord’s Supper- We believe in the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper. We partake in the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of the bodily sacrifice of Jesus on the cross on our behalf, and the new covenant of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
Resurrection of the Dead- We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgement and everlasting conscious punishment.
The Second Coming of Christ- We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will come again in the clouds to call His children home at the rapture, where those believers who are dead will rise from the dead and those believers who are alive will be caught up together with them to be in heaven with Jesus. We also believe that Jesus will come again to this earth to defeat His enemies and establish His kingdom upon the earth. “…even so, Lord Jesus, quickly come.” Rev. 22:20
Our Values
We value the Word of God and the way it reveals God to us.
We value the worship of Jesus in music, prayer, service, and study.
We value the people God has called us to serve, pre-born to elderly, and see them as a gift from God.
We value the opportunities we have to enjoy the blessings of God and to tell others about Him.
